City of Chicago Building Permits
The primary source is the City of Chicago Building Permits dataset (Socrata identifier ydr8-5enu). We use issue date, application start date, processing time, permit type, review type, community area, reported cost, total fees, and computed geography fields. We deliberately do not publish permit-contact names or individual address-level profiles.

Community areas
Names and numbers come from the City’s current Community Areas boundary dataset. These stable official areas make long-term comparisons possible even when informal neighborhood names overlap.

ZIP boundaries
ZIP labels come from the City’s ZIP Code Boundaries dataset and are joined through the permit dataset’s computed ZIP region. ZIP boundaries are analysis areas and should not be read as exact postal delivery guarantees.

Refresh policy
The generated site records the exact coverage window. Rebuilds exclude the current date and rerun all validation, page-count, structured-data, link, and sitemap checks before deployment.
